Hello Families,
Wow, it is hard to believe we have already entered December! What an year it has been, I hope everyone is still doing well despite an interesting and challenging year!
We had a super fun whole school PJ day today! Students have been working extra hard today, maybe we need to wear our PJ's everyday? haha!
The Pigeon adventure challenge from last weekend was a massive success! We started writing our Pigeon narratives this week in class and learned about "big fish hooks" to capture the attention of our audience with our writing. We used the analogy of wanting to have a juicy and exciting start our Pigeon narratives to "hook a big fish". The criteria we learned to include is details and descriptive language, an exciting event, and when the event took place. We provided feedback to our first drafts to improve our work, also! Here are some examples to the start of this work:
We also learned about pictographs as a new way to represent data. We used a parallel task from last week with recording dice rolls with tallies, however, instead of completing a bar graph to show our data, we used pictographs. Many students reported they feel more comfortable using pictographs than bar graphs at this point in time. Our next work is to collect and represent data about school T-shirts! Here are some pictures of the pictograph work:
This week we also learned about the difference between rights and responsibilities at school and represented this information using words and pictures. We read a story together about rights and responsibilities and then brainstormed a list as a whole class.
Only a few school days left until winter break! Please ensure you have logged on to google classroom before the break begins so you can be prepared for online learning in January.
Important Dates:
December 17 = Festive Sweater Day
December 18 = Winter Break begins for students!
Take care,
Ms. Brown
