Insulator Homework

Hi Families,

This week, students entered the final stages of our exploration into liquids, hot and cold temperatures by designing an insulator to keep a water bottle cold.

Each student drew a blueprint for their water bottle insulator, labeled the different materials they would need, and then reviewed it with me.

Our classroom has plenty of materials for joining/attaching (ie. tape, glue). All students are bringing home a materials list the require to construct their insulator today, it is on a brightly colored cue card. Items may include things like popsicle sticks, bubble wrap, grocery bags, Styrofoam, a single plastic container, etc. Most students have identified 2-4 materials.

Please have them bring their materials into school on Monday to start building. If possible, please send them in a bag clearly labeled with your child’s name.

There will be opportunities to reflect on the success of materials during the testing process, so please stay true to your child’s material list as they are applying their current learning and will benefit from the design thinking process provided in this activity. Please and thank you

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you.
Lindsay Brown
