Zoo Field Trip

Hello families,

 

We are excited to announce rooms 2,3, 4 and 5 are organizing a field trip to the Calgary Zoo for the tentative date of April 20th, 2022. This field trip will require 4-5 parent-volunteers for each class. If you are able to volunteer with our class for this day please ensure you have an up to date police check on file with our school. To initiate this process please contact our office for further information. If you are up to date with this and would like to volunteer please email Ms. Lindsay Brown @librown@cbe.ab.ca

St. Patrick's Day, and Week Update

This week we focused on... 


St. Patrick's Day (shamrock art) 






Numeracy: 
- Multiplication strategy of repeated addition 
Literacy:
- On the weekend writing with transition words, and a focus on descriptive (juicy) words
- Reviewed instructional writing with the prompt "How to Catch a Leprechaun" 
Social Studies: 
- Began learning about the community of Meteghan through our textbooks
Science: 
- Continued learning about the properties of liquids
- Discussed viscosity and flow while conducting a "liquids race"

Student Led Conferences


Please sign up for Student Led Conferences this Thursday and Friday 


Here is a breakdown of what we will be covering in the 15 minute conferences:

Before the Conference

  • Book a conference time

    • Ensure you have access to Microsoft Teams

  • Review the artifacts of learning (packages going home Thursday)

    • Procedural writing example 

    • Subtraction strategies 

    • Students favourite work (two examples) 

  • Prepare any questions you may have


During the Conference (15 minutes)

  • Log on to Microsoft Teams with your child, as this

 conference is student led

  • You may be placed in the "Waiting Room" momentarily

  • Discuss artifacts together

  • Your child may need "think-time" after being asked a

question

  • Share questions that you have for the teacher


After the Conference

  • Complete the rubric’s with your child to provide them with

feedback and goals

  • Continue to celebrate your child's learning and hard work

this year!

Friday Update


Friday Update 

Our Book Fair has started. Please check my previous blog post for the link. 

(sorry if you tried this earlier as the link was not yet active) 


This week we focused on... 

Numeracy: 

- Solving subtraction questions by drawing, stamping, expanding and using a number line 

- Focus on showing work and method 

Literacy:

- Introduced to procedural (instructional) writing 

- Identified instructional writing features (from mentor texts/example books) to create a "mind map" 

- Reflected on our previous attempt, and identified features that we would use in our future instructional writing 

Social Studies: 

- Continued to learn about the Inuit people of Canada through our textbooks

Science: 

- Described the properties of water according to our five senses



Reminders:

- Students will be going outside each day! Please make sure they have appropriate clothing.
