March 4, 2019

Hello Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend, thank you for sending helmets today! Alien Inline was a lot of fun! Today we had our first session and all students were successful and courageous with the roller blading lessons, despite several wipe outs. Luckily, we had a whole hour of instructional time! Just getting the knee and elbow pads, wrist guards, and blades on was very time consuming, haha :)

We have Alien Inline again on Wednesday, March 6th and Tuesday, March 12th. Please send helmets for these days as well. In addition, if there are any parent volunteers that would like to join us from 8:20am until about 8:50am on those days just to assist in helping students with roller blades it would really help to speed up the process. Let me know via email if you can assist!

Furthermore, because of Alien Inline in the gym, we will be having our physical education time outdoors (weather permitting) over the next two weeks. Please ensure your child is extra bundled on these days so we can enjoy our outdoor physical activity time!

Word work this week went home on an orange/yellow sheet for practicing. The words are varied again this week, with most lists focusing on different vowel sounds to build reading and writing confidence.

Last week we finished the rough copies of our social story work and created a bullseye rubric for success. We will begin out good copy writing this week, with the social stories and illustrations, as well as self assessments about the work ready to share at student led conferences. All of the social stories are written about small problems that happen at school, so should be relevant and helpful for all students! :)

Last week we also got to experience Code Mobile and Crazy Hair/Hat Day on the same day, SO FUN! The crazy hair and hats looked amazing!!!! Everyone went all out and it was such a fun day for everyone. Here are some of then pictures I took during Code Mobile of the students learning how to use the Scratch program to code.

We also have begun exploring liquids and hot and cold temperatures. With Ms. Thomas's class, we started talking about water and why it is important, this was a great refresher from our landform work.  We also taste tested water at various temperatures, and many students demonstrated a preference for the cool "ice water". As follow up, we used thermometers and tested water temperatures out of all the taps and water fountains in the school. We talked about letting the water "acclimate" by waiting one minute to get an accurate temperature read.

Today, we started to learn about weaving by creating our own weaving looms from paper plates. Tomorrow we will be able to start adding the color to our looms to create beautiful art!

Scholastic Orders will be due on Friday, March 15th!

Take care!
Lindsay Brown
