February 5, 2021

 Hello Families,

I hope everyone is keeping warm! Things have been going really well here in room 11, and we have had conversations about already being half way through the school year! We have talked about being in grades 1.5 and 2.5 and how this means our work will get EVEN BETTER than it already is :).

We have started looking at word problems and mathematical vocabulary in our classroom. Students are becoming more familiar with numbers up to 100, and determining the important parts of word problems to understand which operation to use.

Valentines day is next week and we will be celebrating as a class on Wednesday, February 10. Please note that due to covid protocols we are not allowed to bring and distribute valentines day cards or snacks this year. Instead, we will be doing a secret valentine project. If you'd like to sent a special treat for your child on the 10th feel free as we will have a mini party in the afternoon.

Also, please note February 11 and 12 are PD days for teachers convention, and February 15 is a holiday for Family Day.

Below is a final note from Mr. Mix, we sure enjoyed having him as part of our classroom community.

Take care,

Ms. Brown

Hello everyone,

I have had the great pleasure of being a student teacher in Ms. Brown's class the last four weeks and my time with your kids is officially over.  I want to say thank you for welcoming me into their lives and for allowing them to teach me what it means to be a teacher.  Ms. Brown has been incredible, but I must say, your kids have been my greatest teacher!

Over the last four weeks, I have been teaching the class about Small Crawling and Flying Animals.  We have investigated three different insects: beetles, mantids and butterflies.  We learned about and compared the life cycles for each insect, their diverse habitats, and their various adaptations.  The students loved looking at the beetle species (especially the Dung Beetle) and how some beetles can walk on water, run up Mr. Mix in three seconds, and create a poisonous juice that protects them from predators.  As a final project, the students are taking one of those insects and displaying why those insects are important/interesting to show how they are essential to humanity and how our lives would look drastically different without their impact.

Again, thank you so much for this opportunity!  I will miss the students of Room 11 so much, and I'll never forget my first class!

Thanks,
Brock
