October 14, 2022

Hello Families,
This week we were able to spend some time testing the strength and stability of the tree bases we constructed last week. We tested strength by stacking a dictionary on the top and stability by putting the base through an imaginary earthquake. We have decided to use two of the bases stacked on-top of each other to create a mega base! Next week, we will continue with the tree construction. We are still seeking paper tubes (ie. toilet paper, wrapping paper, paper towel, etc) for our construction.

We continue to investigate place value and this week we looked at comparing numbers using symbols < > and =. Students were challenged with either looking at numbers up to 10,000 or up to 1,000,000. We are also working through a "place value passport" where we explore different representations of place value.

We were finally able to complete the news articles we have been writing about the Terry Fox Assembly and Run at LBS. We worked carefully to construct interesting hooks to grab the audiences attention. Next week, we will be looking into this further, as well as starting some poetry learning.
REMINDER: we are going on a walking field trip Monday afternoon!

 Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
 Ms. Brown
