 Hello Families,

It was a great week at exploring the characters in Wishtree and learning various multiplication strategies! Our class pet was also revealed... in the new year we are getting a VAMPIRE CRAB!

We used our planning from last week to write 2 sentences about each of the main Wishtree characters (Bongo, Red, Stephen, and Samar) using only their character traits. Then, we went through feedback cycles to improve the quality of language and descriptions. We used the final drafts of this work to make fortune tellers with a description of the characters inside. Students can now play against one another to see if they can guess the character based on the description!

We spent the entire week working on developing and improving multiplication strategies through the use of arrays, skip counting and repeated addition. We then applied this understanding through practice questions and word problems and learned the more advanced version of multiplication squares. To assess students understanding, today we completed a mini multiplication check in.

The Move-ember Movement Minutes Challenge is officially over and we are happy to announce we finished in second place! Due to the efforts of room 2, we have decided to celebrate our silver medal finish with a fun filled active day in the final week of school before winter break. See the graph below for a breakdown of the minutes earned at LBS!

In preparation for the arrival of our Vampire Crab class pet, we have started to learn about the lifecycle, diet, and needs of the crab to best support it in the new classroom environment. Students have become savvy researchers accessing multiple online sources to synthesize and cross-reference information.

Please note, the gym will be unavailable for the next two weeks, thus, we will be going outside daily for our Physical Education time (weather permitting). Please ensure students come dressed for an extended period of time spent outdoors each day.

Thanks for all of your support with the Mitten Tree donations! This is a beautiful representation of active citizenship, a key component of Montessori education, within our school community!

Additionally, I shared some mini videos of the Immersive Nutcracker that I went to on the weekend at the BMO centre, many student's expressed interest in attending so I said I would link it on the blog (it was amazing): https://www.immersive-nutcracker.com/calgary/

I look forward to seeing you at the concert next Thursday!

Take care,

Ms. Brown
